The certificate award ceremony for participants in the “Intensive course of conference interpreting”

On January, 22 the certificate award ceremony was held for participants in an intensive course of conference interpreting regularly organized by the Caspian Higher School of Interpretation and Translation and the Center for Translation Studies and Conference Interpretation. Within the 2 week course the participants had an opportunity to master the basic skills of simultaneous and consecutive interpreting, to meet the interpreters’ community and learn some peculiarities of conference interpreters’ work, to communicate with native-speakers invited to give lessons, and also to prepare themselves for the future work and to raise the expertise level in their interpreting career. The lessons were very intensive and were given every day including Saturday. The course program includes theoretical and practical principles of the interpreting training, the simultaneous interpreting principles, the consecutive interpreting, the training of short-term and long-term memory with the help of mnemotics exercises, the training principles of interpreter’s shorthand writing, the module training of vocabulary on different topics of the conference interpreting course (economy, medicine, industry, tourism etc.). The lessons are given by teachers and other staff of the Center for Translation Studies and Conference Interpretation and the Caspian Higher School of Interpretation and Translation. Both staff members and the teachers use modern European and US training methods of interpreting.
After the course was over and the participants passed the final test successfully, they got the Astrakhan State University certificate of professional development and the training certificate of the “Intensive course of conference interpreting” program. It should be noted that among the participants there were interpreters from the oil company (Altyn Omasheva, Saule Dzhumagazieva), a teacher of the Chinese language from the Faculty of Foreign Languages (Anastasiya Studenkova), chief officers of the International Department of the Ministry of International and Foreign Economic Relations of the Astrakhan region (Galimbek Turishev, Yuliya Golubkina), representatives of the Caspian Marine Research Center (Olga Esina, Oksana Khokhlina), a freelance interpreter (Anna Veretelnikova) and a teacher from the Art Fashion Industry College (Anastasiya Apanasenko).
The conference interpreting course completion may only become the beginning of the conference interpreting training for the participants, as some of them have already expressed a desire for entering the master program of the Caspian Higher School of Interpretation and Translation for the further improvement of their interpreting skills and the achievement of the European interpreting standards.
