YmkY0rMcGd8On April, 3 MA students of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation had another class with Vladimir Faekov, a diplomatic official, professional interpreter, lexicographer, the Director of Advanced Training for Interpreters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

The class for MA students of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translationwas devoted to the safety precautionsat interpreter’s workplace.

The atmosphere of the class was friendly and warmas Vladimir Faekov has a witty sense of humor. Inthe beginning of the class MA students, as professional interpreters do, warmed upby practicingtongue-twisters in English and Russian.  Then Vladimir Faekovstressed the importance of keepingall work-related information confidential. He told about the rules of professional conduct, the technical support for simultaneous interpretation and how to use equipment for simultaneous interpretationproperly.

A good interpreter besides being fluent in a foreign language should mind the integrity of language, breathing, intonation and diction. For this purpose Vladimir Faekov recommended to study tutorials on elocution and doarticulation exercises before interpretation. Moreover, an interpretershouldalways keep fit. You may wonderwhy a simultaneous interpreter should do sports. The answer is simple: an interpreter should train his/her enduranceto be able to work in different conditions.Astriking example is interpretationduring theNormandy formatnegotiations in Minsk, which lasted more than 13 hours andthe interpretershad to remain on edge. They succeeded in their task, as they were enduring and willing to overcome any challenges. The MA students were interestedto listen about interpreter’s real life experience. The class was interactive, so students had an opportunity to ask Vladimir Faekovquestions. MA students of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translationinspired by the invaluable experience of theleading interpreterlook forward to taking another class with him.
