Virtual class with the European Parliament
On February 6,the video conference with DG INTERPRITING of the European Parliament was held with sixMA students of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translationparticipating in it.That time more attention was given to the English language – Olga Kulakova, Lidia Yaitskova, Karina Kulova, Anna Veretelnikovaand AnnaTsherbakovaperformed consecutive interpretation from English into Russian.
YuliaVasilyeva, a first year MA student, faced a special challenge – she was to interpret a speech from Russian into English. It should be noted thatKarina Kulova, Anna Veretelnikova and YuliaVasilyevatook part in such a conference for the first time and performed well though they were a bit nervous.Speakers from the European Parliament prepared speeches for MA students on different topics: the influence of physical exercises on brain, the importanceofsaving water, the use of shale gas. Meanwhile YuliaImbagimova, the professor of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation, delivered a speech on how many friends people could have. The European Parliament interpreters noted that first and second year MA students did a good job.
The European Parliament colleagues noted the following merits of the performed interpretations:confident presentations and highlevel proficiency of the Russian language. However, there were some mistakes –slight omissions, incorrectdelivery of sense of some parts of the text, which caused distortion of the message, grammar mistakes, wrong identification of register and synonyms, difficulties with putting thoughts into words in the Russian language etc.The European Parliament interpreters and the professors of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation commented upon the interpretations and were satisfied with the students’ performance.
