Master program “Translation Theory. Intercultural and Interlingual Communication”  within the “Caspian Higher School of Interpretation and Translation” – a joint project of  Astrakhan State University, the Directorates-General for Interpretation of the European Commission and the European Parliament with the support of the Government of the Astrakhan region

The European Commission officially supports the development of this master program in order to make it the main and fundamental program for training of highly qualified interpreters in the Caspian sea region, Central Asia, South of Russia and Middle East.

Yesterday ASU Master students had a chance within the frame of a videoconference to show the level of their preparation to the interpreters working in the European Commission and the European Parliament.

During the interactive lesson both the first and second year master students were examined. They were to accomplish a challenging task: to deliver interpretation both from English and French into Russian and vice versa. The themes of speeches to be interpreted were very diverse. Despite some difficulties, the students did a very good job, and will definitely take into account all the mistakes.

According to the European Commission representatives, such classes make great contribution to becoming a professional interpreter. They also noted the warm ambience of the event that took place in the newly opened classroom for conference interpreters at the Faculty of Foreign Languages of Astrakhan State University.
