Training for trainers seminar organized by the International Association of Conference Interpreters!
From June, 1 till June, 3 the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation honourably hosted the training for trainers seminar of the International Association of Conference Interpreters which has held in Russia for the first time. Among the seminar participants there were leading interpreting and translating teachers from universities of Astrakhan, Moscow, Chelyabinsk, Kazan and Astana (Kazakhstan). Apart from teachers and interpreters our 1st year MA student Liliya Petrova also took part in the seminar; she already works as a Turkish teacher and will be able to apply the knowledge acquired within this training seminar in her teaching work and future interpreting career.
The seminar was held by Dick Fleming, founder of AIIC training courses and former interpreter in the European Commission. The seminar touched upon main aspects of interpreting and translation but it mainly aimed to cover the interpreter training process itself. The participants discussed basic principles of interpreter training, lesson planning paying a particular attention to specific issues of interpreter training. All the seminar participants noted extremely friendly atmosphere, engaging format of the seminar (the lessons were organized in form of discussions), unique teacher talent of Dick Fleming and the seminar efficiency.
The guests also noted the high level of the facilities of our conference interpreting room, beautiful sights of Astrakhan, an excellent organization of the event and hospitality of the seminar hosts.
