Volunteering of MA students of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation at the international forum “Young Opera soloists. The beginning of the path»

From September, 27 to October, 6, 2019, a new project was initiated by the Astrakhan State Theatre of Opera and Ballet – the international forum “Young Opera Soloists. The Beginning of the Path.” For first and second year MA students of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation this was another great opportunity to demonstrate their interpreting skills in practice.

For 10 days MA students were volunteers of this event, interpreting during master classes, creative workshops, lessons from leading professionals, including pianists, concertmasters, conductors from Austria (Pantelis Polychronides), Italy (Massimo Morelli) and Slovakia (Eva Blahova). The duties of master’s students also included linguistic support during round tables, interpreting during press conference and orchestra rehearsals, accompanying guests during excursion to the main attractions of the city.

Students had a unique opportunity to prove themselves in working with English, Italian and German.It was an interesting and precious experience, in which students not only demonstrated their interpreting skills, but also were able to feel the atmosphere of art and get acquainted with many musical pieces. For many first years, this was the first experience of interpreting at significant events. For example, Veronika Korolkevich and Dmitry Shashkin were lucky enough to become participants of one of the round tables for the first time, in which their main task was whispered interpreting for foreign guests.

The guys were very worried before the event, but they did an excellent job with the task, so the guests were satisfied.The forum was held at the highest level, leaving positive impression.

Our MA students demonstrated a high degree of enthusiasm, taking active part in all events and, of course, had a solid performance in communicating with foreign guests. They learned a lot about culture and art, both Russian and foreign.
