Sport Unites: CITS Hold Another Inclusion EventThe Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation keeps implementing the project Accessible Linguistic Environment, helping deaf and hard of hearing people socialize. On March 11, another event was held for members of the VOG (All-Russian Society of the Deaf) and deaf students of the Astrakhan Provincial Technical School.

This time, CITS organized a sports meeting and made for the climbing gym Svoboda (eng. Freedom) together with the deaf. Mikhail Shcherbinin, the head of the gym, and other instructors responded to our initiative with enthusiasm and conducted a climbing lesson for deaf and hard of hearing children.

The interpreters of the Russian Sign Language faced a difficult task: they not only had to explain all the subtleties of climbing to the deaf, but also to guard them as they ascended. “It is difficult to interpret when you have a rope in your hands,” say our graduates, who, nevertheless, successfully coped with the task.

The participants speak about their new experience with enthusiasm and hope for further cooperation with CITS and development of the project Accessible Linguistic Environment. Sport unites! The deaf also noted how experienced our graduates have become – now they can interpret in any conditions.
