Seminar on Interpretation for Students of ASU Chair of Oriental Languages
On December 15 and 16, the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation together with the ASU Faculty of Foreign Languages held a seminar “Contemporary Issues of Simultaneous Interpretation in the Oriental space” for students of the ASU Chair of Oriental Languages. The first day of the seminar was held online. Students got acquainted with the concept of simultaneous interpretation and studied its specifics when working with Oriental languages. They were helped by qualified translators and interpreters of Chinese, Turkish and Persian languages, among whom was Lilia Petrova-Beglyari, a CITS graduate.
On the second day of the seminar, CITS told the students about the basic principles of consecutive interpretation, showed the basics of note-taking, gave an insight into simultaneous interpretation, as well as demonstrated the work of the interpreters and equipment for simultaneous translation.
In the practical part, students were to analyze two interpretations of one speech – “bad” and “good” – find mistakes in the them, “identify” the adequate interpretation and explain why they think so. All students took an active part in the discussions and asked many curious questions.
In addition to the practical part of the seminar, the students were told about the school, organizations it cooperates with, and about our graduates.
