Science Popular Mock Conference SciPitch at CITS
The Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) celebrated its 300th anniversary on February 8. The Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation (CITS), supported by the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists (CYSS) of ASU, hosted a science popular mock conference SciPitch (Scientific Pitch) dedicated to the celebration of the Day of Russian Science.
Young researchers and scientists presented their research projects in English to investors and guests of the conference. Uliana Saveleva, CITS Director, Ekaterina Davydova, Head of the Department of Scientific and Innovation Policy, and Lyubov Sinegubova, Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of ASU made send-off speeches at the event. MA students provided simultaneous interpretation thus building communication bridges between both the participants and linguistics and teaching students.
After each presentation, the investors representing major scientific foundations – the Russian Scientific Foundation (RSF) and the Russian Academy of Sciences – asked interesting questions. In the end, the investors, students and schoolchildren acted as experts distributing the funding of the projects after hearing the scientists’ arguments. The representatives of the scientific foundations issued certificates to the participants explaining why the particular project deserved RAS and RSF funding.
The winner was the scientist who got the largest amount of funding from both scientific foundations. The presentations had the following topics (from the most funded to the least one):
– Robotic Complex “Pantheon” by Paa Kwabena Jectey-Nyarko;
