CITS MA Students Participated in the Third Translation Winter School
On January 27-29, first- and second-year CITS MA students took part in the Third Translation Winter School in Moscow. The Translation Winter School was held by the Union of Translators of Russia under the leadership of Vadim Sdobnikov.
During lectures and master classes, CITS MA students have learnt about the legal aspects of translation, Russian translation market and its current trends and requirements. Trainers of leading linguistic universities shared their personal experience in translation and interpreting work. In particular, Mikhail Zagot spoke about the history of simultaneous film interpreting. Heads of translation companies and leading professionals in various industries where there is a demand for specialists in the increasingly popular audiovisual translation and computer games translation told about the intricacies and pitfalls that translators may encounter. Specialists in the field of technical translation shared a lot of new and useful information as well.
Those willing to dedicate their lives to translation were lucky to attend several lectures on CAT (computer-aided translation) systems skills, such skills are a necessary requirement in all translation companies.
Students also had the opportunity to participate in a master class on consecutive interpreting in the form of “mock conference”, where they could not only prove themselves as active and attentive listeners, but also try on the role of an interpreter and practice their skills in front of a large audience.
Thanks to the work of the Third Translation Winter School, now students have a holistic view of Russian translation and interpreting market, got answers to important questions and have set a specific goal, which they, as future translators and interpreters, aspire to achieve.
