CITS Students Keep Mastering Interpretation by MFA Russia Standards
On March 14-18, 2022, MA students of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation took part in online master classes held by Andrey Zavarukhin, the Third Secretary of the Linguistic Support Department of the MFA Russia. During the training session, our students learnt more about interpreting, got necessary advice on self-preparation, and tried their hand at consecutive and simultaneous interpretation.
At the first stage of their training, the students prepared for simultaneous interpretation. They improved their skills in sight translation and in consecutive interpretation with notes and also studied terminology and expressions used at MFA briefings. This stage was necessary for the students to prepare for simultaneous interpretation. Besides, the expert of the Linguistic Support Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry shared his own interpreting experience with the students.
At the second stage of the training session, MA students enhanced their simultaneous interpretation skills, interpreting MFA briefing materials and TED Talks speeches. As a warm-up, the students revised expressions from the glossary they were given beforehand, and then started interpreting a briefing by Maria Zakharova from Russian into English. In conclusion, Andrey Zavarukhin showed the interpreters-to-be his own skills of simultaneous interpretation.
