The Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation has held a training course on working with computer-assisted translation tools, with students learning the principles of working with CAT tools – SDL Trados Studio and SmartCAT.

CITS Offers CAT TrainingThe course was taken by 3rd and 4th year students of the Faculty of Foreign Languages. Interested in developing their professional skills, translators-to-be studied the features of CAT tools. They tried creating a translation memory, which stores previously translated segments, learned how to convert glossaries in Glossary Converter, practiced changing text formats with the use of tags, and mastered the concordance search function. The course participants actively applied their knowledge in practice and got acquainted with the peculiarities of working in a group project.

It should be noted that usually employers expect translators to have CAT tools skills, and ASU students master the basic functions of CAT tools as part of Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses.
