Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation Holds a Series of Master Classes on Working with SDL Trados Studio and SmartCAT TMS Systems

Advanced training course “Applying TMS in Training Translators” is well under way at the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation, Astrakhan State University. The course participants are mastering the principles of working in SDL Trados Studio and SmartCAT systems.

Translation management systems have become indispensable helpers in translators’ work. These programmes offer a wide range of tools for translating – from translation analysis of the text and its preparation for translation to translated material quality check.

Particularly useful helpers include the translation memory and glossary creation functions which are used to improve the speed and quality of translation. In addition, learning about built-in and external quality control tools like QA Checker, xBench and Verifica is an important training element.

Another important feature of SDL Trados Studio system is the function of creating teamwork projects involving a single translation memory and glossary, which, in its turn, allows to achieve a unified translation regardless of the number of team members.

For now, two groups of attendees have completed the course at the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation, and the training of the third group is under way. In addition, Bachelor’s degree students of the Faculty of Foreign Languages actively master the software at the translation lessons within their majors.
