Dissemination of Best Practices in Conference Interpreter Training between EU and non-EU languagesOn June 14, the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation, together with Faculty of Translation and Interpreting of University of Geneva, held a webinar dedicated to feedback given at virtual classes. The webinar was organized within the framework of project “Dissemination of Best Practices in Conference Interpreter Training between EU and non-EU languages” for the Kazan Federal University and L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Kazakhstan that have been our partner universities for a long time.
In their joint presentation Olga Egorova and Manuela Motta highlighted the difficulties that professor may come across commenting on student’s interpreting in a remote mode, peculiarities of this type of commenting and aspects that must be focused on when giving feedback at a virtual-class.
Colleagues from Kazan and Astana were really interested in the webinar topic, and after it they took part in lively discussion that even went outside of the main topic framework; for example, there were questions concerning applied aids for training interpreters, differentiation in consecutive interpreting with notes and no-note taking interpreting during a class, as well as some aspects of interpersonal student-teacher interaction and creation of relaxing study environment that nowadays is becoming more and more popular in the modern educational process.
The webinar participants were satisfied with its results that fully correspond to the main aim of the project – dissemination of best practices in conference interpreter training between universities. We hope that the Kazan Federal University and L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University will become permanent participants of our virtual classes and will be able to apply acquired knowledge for giving feedback to both their and our students.
