New students are enrolled in the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation

On July 29, Nadezhda Emelyanova, the Dean of the Department of Foreign Languages, announced the names of the new students of “Theory of Interpretation and Intercultural Communication” and “Theory and Practice of Communication in Professional Communication” master degree programs. Students were told to improve their language skills and monitor the world news. Then they left to meet in the beginning of the academic year. On August 31, Olga Egorova, the head of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation, together with leading teachers of the School, had coordination meetings with each group. The new students were given the information on the process of studies; the prefects of the groups were also appointed. 20 new students were admitted this year. But, in fact, they can hardly be called newcomers. Most of them are the graduates of the Department of Foreign Languages, though they have different language combinations. Only few of them have never studied at the Department of Foreign Languages.

Nine charming ladies have become the first-year students of the program “Theory of Interpretation and Intercultural Communication” (interpretation). Some of them got their specialist’s and bachelor’s degrees only this year, while others finished their undergraduate studies much earlier. Despite the age gap, the atmosphere in the group is friendly. Nevertheless, Ekaterina Natkhina, the prefect of the group, says: “The atmosphere in the group favors positive competition. We do our best to be quick to grasp, to submit our works in time and cope with the complicated schedule”. The schedule is really complicated, as it includes the lessons with the teachers of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation, voice coaching classes with the leading teacher of the Astrakhan College of Culture (who helps them to improve their speech habits), and their independent work at group-sessions. Soon they will also have virtual classes and mock-conferences, etc.  However, all these events will start after the aptitude test, that the master students are to take on October 14. The test is graded by the leading teachers of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation and Liam Long, a leading interpreter of the European Commission.
