CITS Develops Recommendations for T & I Training

On October 12, Director of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation Uliana Saveleva took part in a roundtable on developing recommendations for higher schools that design bachelor programmes in interpreting and translation. The roundtable was held within the 31st international scientific conference Language and Culture, dedicated to the 143rd anniversary of Tomsk State University and the 25th anniversary of its Faculty of Foreign Languages.

Representatives of 20 universities and 20 companies took part in the discussion, which resulted in a decision to join the efforts in developing a competency framework for training translators and interpreters. The roundtable participants discussed the key professional competencies of T & I specialists, taking into account the existing standards and current requirements to the graduates set by the industry. CITS Director Uliana Saveleva highlighted such aspects of developing T & I students’ competencies as the relevance of soft skills and introduction of the Russian Sign Language and sign language interpretation into the curricula. In addition, the colleagues got interested in format “Master’s Thesis in Form of a Project”, implemented at CITS according to the school’s principle of practice-focused training.
