Acquaintance with the “Land of Fire” Culture
For the first time the Faculty of Foreign Lan guages held an event devoted to the Azerbaijani culture. Representatives of the Faculty (Olga Egorova, Svetlana Kraeva, the Dean of the Faculty) and the guests (Adalyat Guseinov, the head of Astrakhan Regional Department of the All-Russian Azerbaijani Congress, Irakhid Mirishov, a representative of the Azerbaijani diaspora in our region, and Rashid Agaev, the Deputy Head of the Executive Body of Baku city Narimanovskiy district) warmly discussed the issues of Azerbaijan and ASU partnership. The meeting was held as a part of the program on the support of development of ASU students’ unions. Olga Egorova welcomed the honored guests and expressed her hope for further fruitful partnership.
Adalyat Guseinov agreed that such successful partnership should continue. Indeed, the Astrakhan region has implemented a lot of projects together with Azerbaijan for a very short period of time: the Bridge of Russian-Azerbaijani Friendship and the monument to Geidar Aliev, the national leader of Azerbaijan, were built; school No11 was restored and a kindergarten was built as a token of friendship.
Irakhid Mirishov noted that the support on the level of the local government as the social one. He emphasized that ASU is the only university that actively cooperates with the Azerbaijan diaspora.
In his opening speech Rashid Agaev thanked ASU for organizing such events and invited to the forum dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Geidar Aliev, that will be held in the Astrakhan region from May 14 to 16 and attended by distinguished politicians, scientists and people of art of Azerbaijan.
In the second part of the event the students, learning Azerbaijanian recited poems, sang songs and even performed a national Azerbaijanian dance.
Besides, students took the opportunity to demonstrate their brilliant skills of simultaneous interpretation when holding a mock-meeting similar to the real life meetings at the European Commission and the European Parliament, principal partners of the Caspian Higher School Of Interpreting and Translation.
Also there were some distant participants. During the video conference with Baku Slavic University Telman Jafarov told about the results of partnership with ASU and about future projects. Students shared the experience of organizing the Caliph Day when students govern the university for one day and then some elected students form some Inner Cabinet that also operates as a governing body.
National dishes were prepared for all the visitors and the participants. We hope, that such events will become traditional not only for the faculty, but also for the whole university.
