08PdyyksuBUOn September, 24 the first- and the second-year MA students of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation held the first mock conference of this academic year devoted to the Oil Crisis of 1973. The lesson was held in the format of a meeting and the Oil Shock reasons and its consequences for Europe and the USSR were discussed in details. The lesson started with an introduction speech of our Chairperson — Olga Kulakova, second-year MA student – in which she described the concept of the Oil Shock and talked about its preconditions.
Professor Duccio Basosi and a 2nd– year MA student of the University of Venice, Alessandro Goffi, were invited to the mock conference as well. Our guests spoke about the impact the Oil Crisis had on the economy Europe and Italy in particular. They also listened to the report of a second-year MA student Maria Chuyan who spoke on behalf of a Moscow State University professor specialised in History and Political Science.
As the mock conference was a “formal event”, the mass media representatives were invited. The 1st year MA student Karina Kulova, speaking on behalf of the International Ecological Network, wondered why the Agency for Environmental Protection of the US “temporarily suspended the ban on the use of coal during the Oil Shock period instead of working on the alternative fuel sources projects”. Alexandra Kherina, in the person of Joan Lunden of the KCRA news agency, asked the guests about their opinion regarding the role of the 1973 Oil Crisis in the collapse of the USSR.
Professor Basosi answered kindly all the questions and tried to speak on all the aspects of the subject. At the end of the class, students received valuable comments on their work.
