Volunteering of MA Students of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation at the international handball tournament

On December 14-16, Astrakhan held the 3rd international handball tournament in memory of V. Sizov, President of the handball team “Astrakhanochka”, which gathered teams from Russia, Poland and Romania. MA students of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation traditionally provided interpretation during the tournament: for several years MA students have been officially requested by the Ministry of Sports of Astrakhan region to participate in the tournament as volunteer interpreters. The students were to accompany the teams, provide interpretation and solve different organizational and other issues. First year MA students who interpreted at the tournament for the first time marked out great benefits of volunteering at such events, as they make you feel like a real interpreter, face linguistic challenges that are sometimes difficult to simulate in class, and cope with them, broaden your horizons and make new acquaintances. In general, the students received an unforgettable experience of both the interpretation practice itself and communication with representatives of other cultures and languages, which allowed them to take a different look at the linguistic difficulties and find their own way of solving various interpretation tasks.
