On April 21, Tatyana Jolivet, the HR-manager of the International Committee of the Red Cross, made a presentation onICRCto the students of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation. The ICRC is the oldest international organization that works throughout the world helping the victims of armed conflicts.

The presentation was also interesting to the students from all the chairs of the ASU Department of Foreign language, as well as the students from other departments, including Department of Social Studies and World Economy, who attended the lecture.Professors of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation and the Department of Foreign Languages also attended the meeting. Ms. Jolivet was particularly interested in the students who study oriental languages as the ICRC works a lot in the areas where these languages are spoken. The organization’s main working languages are English, French, Spanish and Arabic. The interpreters mainlycommunicate with prisoners as well as with the prison authorities and government officials to provide for observance of human rights and properconditions of detention. Tatyana Jolivet told about the challenges of workingin the ICRC and conditions for personnel selection. Only people older than 25 can apply for the job as there is age limit in the organization. The newcomers will have towork far from their home, family and friends. The work is difficult but very rewarding!
