This week the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation was visited by professors from the University of Ljubljana: prof. Vojko Gorjanč from the Department of Interpretation and prof. Nike Kocijančič Pokorn from the Department of Translation. Within the framework of their visit to the School, the professors showed a presentation devoted to the topical issues both translators/interpreters and translation/interpreting teachers face.

It is important to notice long-term collaboration between the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation and the University of Ljubljana within the project financed by the Directorate General for Interpretation and Conferences of the European Parliament. Our universities organize virtual classes on a regular basis, which promotes the improvement of our students’ interpreting skills. This time guests from Ljubljana have personally shared their pedagogical experience with our teachers, presented MA programs of their University, discussed different strategies and technologies used in interpreting and translation  classes as well as master’s theses equally important both in our School and in the University of Ljubljana.

Professor Nike Kocijančič Pokorn told the School students about current tendencies related to the profession of a translator. She also paid attention to the migration crisis, which has enhanced the role of translators. Moreover, the professor underlined the necessity for translators to know about all the changes occurring in the translation market and to be in touch with different modern technologies and CAT tools.

Our guests from Ljubljana thanked the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation and its Head, Olga Egorova, for the warm welcome and excellent organization of their visit and expressed a hope for further collaboration with our School and the possibility of mutual visits both to Astrakhan and to Ljubljana, which are, by the way, sister cities!
