Virtual class with the London Metropolitan University! On May, 16 the Caspian Higher School of Interpretation and Translation held a virtual class with the London Metropolitan University. The subject of the class was very urgent and important not only for our MA students, but also for those who had graduated in interpreting and translation studies: the problem of getting a job after graduation. Eight students took part in the virtual class including our second-year MA students Anastasia Lopatchenko and Sofia Kulchikenova, who interpreted from Russian into Italian and from Russian into English respectively, and first-year MA students Yuliya Miller and Anna Shcherbakova, who interpreted from English into Russian and from French into Russian respectively. The subjects of the speeches were ways of finding interpreter and translator job vacancies; methods of developing interpreting and translating skills and preparing good portfolios; main differences in job-search for interpreters and translators; differences between freelance interpreters/translators and staff interpreters and translators etc. Speakers of the London University also told to their Astrakhan colleagues about a university programme called Interpreter’s Professional Environment which will give the interpreters and translators an opportunity to communicate and exchange their experience and to organise different events and presentations etc. All the speakers wished luck to the future interpreters and translators in finding a job and in succeeding in their career.
