The aptitude test at the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation

On 13 and 14 October, the first year master students took the aptitude test at the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation.

Liam Long, a leading interpreter of the European Commission was an invited expert. Mr. Long, traditionally comes to Astrakhan for organizing aptitude tests and final examinations.

The also expert gives classes of consecutive and simultaneous interpretation to the students of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation during his visits.

At the aptitude test the first year master students provided consecutive interpretation without notes of the speeches on various topics – from influence of the People’s Republic of China in Africa to global warming.

The students answered the questions concerning the current situation in the world, thus enabling to assess our master students` background knowledge.

Some students were interpreting not only from English into Russian and vice versa, but demonstrated their skills of interpreting from other languages, for example from Italian and German.

In general, the master students succeeded in the test. For the next two days they were practicing consecutive interpretation and obtaining skills of interpreter’s note-taking at Liam Long`s classes.

We hope to see Mr. Long to come again to Astrakhan for teaching our master students in the nearest future. We are looking forward to that! And meanwhile we’ll keep on developing consecutive interpretation skills and practice interpreter’s note-taking to advance by his next visit.
