The MA students of the Caspian Higher School of Interpretation and Translation study visit at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation

2LpQYFy-GtE (1)While a major part of students attended lectures and seminars, 5 students of the Caspian Higher School of Interpretation and Translation had a 2-week practice at The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. The students were actively preparing for the study visit. The professors who had already been at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and known the peculiarities of the study visit developed the program. The study visit turned to be extremely busy and intense. During the study visit at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the MA students attended classes given by the leading interpreters of The Linguistic Support Department of simultaneous interpretation and The Linguistic Support Department of translation. It stands to mention that the MA students had a chance to work not only with the English language but with other languages of their combinations.  For instance, the students regularly practiced simultaneous and consecutive interpretation from the Russian into the French languages and vice versa. The specialists shared their professional experience with the MA students, provided them with interesting and useful practice for developing interpreting skills.  The MA students had an opportunity to deliver simultaneous interpretation for the briefing of the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary, Second Class, the Director of the Information and Press Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova. The MA students saw the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from within, translated authentic documents and interpreted the state officials’ speeches.  They also learnt about daily routine of other departments, for instance, The Delivery Service.The students visited the Museum of   the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where they were told about the history of the state diplomacy. The students learnt about the peculiarities and ins and outs of work at the Ministry, about the requirements for interpreters and translators. The study visit helped the MA students understand whether they are ready for real work and what way they need to keep developing their skills. The study visit also helped the MA students prepare for the final examinations.
