This time London Metropolitan University was the partner of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation to have a virtual class.

The VC was devoted to one of the global urgent issues – use and availability of information technologies and technical innovations.

8 students took part in the VC – 4 MA students from the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation and 4 – from London Metropolitan University.

Other MA students were also involved in the work: they interpreted simultaneously in the interpreting booths and practiced their note-taking technique. Working languages were Russian, English and French.

Elena Yakovleva, a trainer of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation, delivered a speech dedicated to the Internet as a disease of the 21st century.

Karina Kulova, a first-year MA student and Gemma Soklakov, a student from London University, interpreted the speech from Russian into English.

The next speech was devoted to the use of  information technologies in education. Kathrin Mayfield from London and Yulia Miller from Astrakhan interpreted the speech from English into Russian.

The third speech, delivered in French, was interpreted into Russian by Svetlana Zaytzeva, the first-year MA student, and Amy Fletcher from London.

Alexandra Kherina, a first-year MA student, and Helen Scott, a MA student from LondonMet, had to deal with a speech on application and development of information technologies in Estonia.

All the participants of the class got valuable feedback from leading trainers from Astrakhan and London. The Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation and London Metropolitan University have been collaborating with each other for several years and every year they arrange exchange of educational speeches, joint Skype sessions etc.

Students of the interpreting schools hold group sessions in accordance with their language combinations thus preparing for final exams and practicing interpretation skills.
