Virtual class with the London Metropolitan University
On 22nd November we had a virtual class with the London Metropolitan University devoted to social media (primarily to social networks), history of their appearance, popularity and influence on modern society. The second year students – Julia Mikhed and Mariam Romatalieva – were interpreting from Russian into English and from English into Russian respectively; the first year student Olga Afanasyeva was interpreting from French into Russian. After their interpretation the students were given an opportunity to share their thoughts about challenges they had faced, to define the general complicacy of the speech, to assess the chosen topic etc. The Metropolitan University teachers were also listening to their students interpreting into Italian, Russian and German. Each interpretation was followed by exchange of opinions as the LondonMet students got the feedback from our teachers on their Russian language and the content rendering of the speech given by Uliana Savelyeva, and the work of our students was assessed both by teachers both in Astrakhan and London.
Moreover, in the final part of the virtual class the London Metropolitan students made a proposal to hold group sessions with our master program students, to provide speeches in English, French, Italian and Spanish and to get help of our students in improving their Russian language. This initiative was supported both by students and teachers and we hope that in the nearest future here in our news you will find notes about the first group sessions with the London Metropolitan University students.
