Teachers of conference interpreting will have an opportunity to delve into both general and specific classroom issues in this 3-day seminar led by Dick Fleming, former organiser of the EU Commission interpreter training course.
Aspects of best practice in interpreter training
This 3-day seminar will invite participants to explore both general and specific issues including:
- general principles of training
- pedagogical progression/skills sequencing
- running a training session
- specific problems in teaching/learning simultaneous and consecutive interpreting (trouble-shooting sessions)

Dick Fleming – formerly organiser of the EU Commission interpreter training course and subsequently Trainer of Trainers both in-house and for various universities.
During the trouble-shooting sessions, he will specifically address the needs of participants, who will be invited to send in learning issues that they and their students face when teaching/learning simultaneous and consecutive, and for which they would like ideas and solutions. (Submissions must be sent in 4 weeks in advance of the course).
Language specific issues may be submitted, but it may not be possible to deal with them.
In this way we hope to provide participants with answers to specific issues that interest them, whilst also offering a broad and informative overview of questions exercising other teachers.
Participants should be practising conference interpreters and trainers of conference interpreters.
