CITS Employees Take Part in Inclusion Without Exclusion Forum

CITS employees took part in the forum Inclusion Without Exclusion, which was held on May 29-30 at Samara University, joining the event online. The team made a presentation on soft skills of Russian Sign Language interpreters.

In the speech, the CITS employees shared their own experience and talked about the skills necessary for a Russian Sign Language interpreter in addition to the professional ones.CITS Employees Take Part in Inclusion Without Exclusion Forum

  • Firstly, social competencies were highlighted, namely cross-cultural communication skills, the ability to speak in public, emotional intelligence and knowledge of business ethics.
  • As practice shows, an RSL interpreter should have leadership competencies, especially the ability to resolve conflicts, and negotiation skills, because sometimes an interpreter and a deaf person find themselves in unpleasant situations where hearing people do not understand the needs of the deaf. Therefore, an RSL interpreter often has to find a compromise.
  • In addition, the speakersdescribed how an RSL interpreter should look.

At the end of the speech, the experts shared interesting experiences they had interpreting at various events. Other participants of the forum listened attentively to the speakers and shared unusual things from their own practice.
