Participants of CITS Courses Are Ready to Describe Cultural Heritage of Our City in Sign LanguageThe Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation actively cooperates with various organizations helping to develop a barrier-free environment in our region within the framework of the project Inclusive Linguistic Environment. One of them is the Dogadin Astrakhan Art Gallery, where excursions are organized in Russian Sign Language. On February 11, graduates of our RSL courses attended such an excursion within the framework of the painting exhibition Faces of Eras which presented 90 portraits, including ones of famous figures, participants of important events of Russia’s history and portraits of famous families of Astrakhan.

During the excursion, the graduates exchanged experiences with practising RSL interpreters Anna Slavianova and Zulfiia Aymukhamedova. The participants say the exhibition was very interesting and informative. Although it was difficult for them at first, as they saw plenty of unfamiliar signs, the guides helped get used to them and conveyed the spirit of the time to the audience. Now our graduates know more about the cultural heritage of Astrakhan and are ready to talk about it in RSL. The interpreters also speak warmly about the participants of the excursion and hope that in the future our graduates will be able to become top-notch interpreters of Russian Sign Language and help deaf and hard of hearing residents of Astrakhan to connect with the world of art.
