On August 19-21, Yekaterinburg hosted Translation Forum Russia 2022, Russia’s largest conference in the translation, interpretation and localization industry. The event was attended by representatives of Astrakhan Tatishchev State University – CITS Director Uliana Saveleva, Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages Nadezhda Emelianova and Head of the Department of English Philology Elena Ilova. Over 3 days of productive work, the representatives of our university established new professional and academic contacts and received an impetus for developing new projects. Within the framework of the round table discussion Universities and T & I: Perestroika?, the colleagues made a report “Graduation Thesis as a Project: Requirements, Defense Procedure & Grading Criteria” and shared the experience of working on graduation thesis: students fulfill a translation and terminological order given by ASU partner organizations. The project has been supported by the Vladimir Potanin Foundation.

CITS Participates in TFR 2022Besides, the ASU representatives attended a series of interesting master classes given by leading experts of the T & I industry – heads of translation bureaus, localizers, freelancers and T & I teachers. They pointed out transformation of the T & I business and expansion of services provided by translation agencies, managing all business processes within one firm – translation, editing, legal support, development of PR campaigns and much more. This trend also dictates the need to revise T & I training, since along with linguistic skills, they will need other non-linguistic competencies for successful employment – legal and digital literacy, a certain set of soft skills, post editing, localization and data management skills.
