CITS Holds Its First International Conference on Linguistic Inclusion

The all-Russian conference Linguistic Inclusion in University Ecosystem is to be held on December 1 at the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation. The event is dedicated to the International Day of People with Disabilities. As part of the conference, representatives of the Russian and CIS universities will talk about the development of inclusion in higher education and discuss aspects of training RSL interpreters.

The event will be hybrid, so the participants will be able to join the conference at CITS or online. The conference includes a round-table discussion on training RSL interpreters, as well as an audio description workshop.

The conference will feature leading experts in inclusive education:

  • Olga Varinova, the President of Siberian Russian Sign Language Interpreters Association, Head of the Russian Sign Language Laboratory at Novosibirsk State Technical University;
  • Ivan Borshchevsky, an audiovisual interpreter, a member of the Audio Description Association (UK) and the Audio Description Worldwide Consortium;
  • Elena Soloveitchik, the Director of the Educational Methodological Centre of the All-Russian Society of the Deaf, Adviser to the President of the All-Russian Society of the Deaf on Pre-School and General Education, Expert on Early Childhood Development and Accessible Environment, an expert in assessing the qualifications of RSL Interpreters

The conference fee is 1,000 RUB. Students’ participation is free of charge.
