Translation Saves Lives: CITS Master Students Assist in Translating Important Medical Documents for a Russian Hospital

Volunteering is one of the indispensable elements of CITS MA students’ lives and studies. Since its foundation, CITS has been establishing a network of partner institutions that provide relevant translating and interpreting practice for our students and involve them into fulfilling truly important tasks.

CITS volunteering geography expanded beyond Astrakhan region long time ago, and recently the rector of Astrakhan Tatishchev State University received a letter of appreciation from Municipal Clinical Hospital No.15 named after O.M. Filatov of the Moscow Health Department. Last year, our students translated important information on cardiology required to render cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency aid in case of cardiovascular diseases. The students not only provided high-level translation, but also formatted the information appropriately, thus having prepared a similar brochure in Russian for our doctors.

The hospital staff expresses their gratitude to CITS Director Uliana Saveleva and the MA students who implemented the project. We hope our students’ work will be a boon to society, help doctors save lives, and serve an example of T & I social significance for future generations of linguistics students.
