CITS Master Student Had an Internship with the Federal Service for Intellectual Property
The Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation strives to give its MA students the best. Our students have the opportunity to practice in world-renowned organizations. Today we will tell you about the internship of Andrey Kuzmenko, the 2nd year MA student, with the Federal Service for Intellectual Property.
At the beginning of the internship, we studied theoretical aspects. Andrey Zhuravlev, Head of the International Cooperation Department, and Valeria Maksimova, Head of one of the Divisions, explained by concrete examples the procedure of granting protection to industrial property objects. Valeria Maksimova told about the stages of the patent application, as well as the financial component of the application, the period of the patent and much more. Then we started to work on the translation of sections, which includes control and regulation systems for various devices, from conventional office printers and computers to complex software on large steel mills, in medicine, aviation, as well as in green and nuclear power. Such practice proved to be very useful for me personally, because at any moment it was possible to consult with the leading experts of Rospatent on the translation of patent documents. Consultations with experts made it possible to significantly improve the translation quality, verify the terms and clarify the methods of translation.
The work was carried out in the presence and under the supervision of leading Rospatent experts. It was a great opportunity for me to learn from their experience. The employees of Rospatent helped to clarify the technical aspects of structural elements and mechanical parts, which was useful for my work.
At the end of the internship I learned the nuances of Rospatent’s interaction with such organizations as the Eurasian Patent Organization, the World Intellectual Property Organization, and the European Patent Organization. Experts from the Division for Multilateral Cooperation told about the way Rospatent interacts with the federal structures of the Russian Federation, how court disputes in the field of patent law are settled, as well as about the numerous stages of checking patents for compliance with the provisions of the Russian Federation law.
The internship with Rospatent was a unique opportunity for me to see with my own eyes how real professionals work, what difficulties they face and how they overcome them.
