From February 27 to March 14, the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation held a training course Inclusive Communication: Basic Course on Interaction with Hearing- and Visually Impaired People within the framework of the Linguistic Inclusion Ecosystem project. The course was taken by employees of social and educational organizations. The school gave them an opportunity to learn the basics of Russian sign language and audio description.

CITS Promotes Linguistic Inclusion in the RegionAt the end of the course, the participants learned about the cultural peculiarities of deaf and hard of hearing communities, learned to interact with people with hearing impairments without knowledge of Russian sign language, mastered basic lexical topics of the Russian sign language and mastered the dactyl alphabet. Moreover, teachers together with each participant personally made a list of phrases in Russian sign language that can be used at work when communicating with deaf or hard of hearing visitors.

We are also glad to announce that a similar course for employees of cultural institutions of Astrakhan starts on April 27.

We hope that a series of courses within the framework of this project will make a significant contribution to the development of linguistic inclusion in the Astrakhan Region, and knowledge and skills acquired in the classroom will become will become a driver for promotion of the Russian sign language among Astrakhan residents.
