Ongoing Cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization
In autumn 2022, first-year students of CITS started to work on a new, now fifth, terminology project related to patent documentation in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
All academic year long, students and their professors were studying various scientific and technology fields to contribute to the WIPO Pearl terminology base. The topics varied from medicine and astrophysics to digital fraud; the task was to find term equivalents in Russian and English and to search for appropriate contexts of their use.
At all stages of the project, the students kept in touch with terminology experts of WIPO – the project supervisor and Head of the PCT International Patent System Support Service Geoffrey Westgate and his colleagues, who helped the students and gave feedback.
The final stage of the project took place on November 9. An online meeting was held with CITS professors and WIPO representatives, where the students summarized the results of their work with the terminology base, discussed experience and shared impressions. After analyzing the work and receiving feedback from WIPO representatives, the students shared what they did best, what still needs to be worked on, as well as their emotions about the project.
