From May 18 to June 8, the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation held a beginner’s course Basics of Russian Sign Language, Interpreting Peculiarities, and Cultural Patterns of the Deaf.CITS Contributes to Inclusive Development in Our Region

It was aimed at developing skills of communication with hearing-impaired people, learning basic vocabulary of Russian Sign Language (RSL), and studying cultural patterns of the deaf. The program included intensive practice of RSL skills, and by the end of the course all participants could freely introduce themselves, talk about their preferences and hobbies in RSL, to communicate with deaf people, and help them in various situations.

After the course, participants will have a unique opportunity to apply their knowledge to real-life situations. The practice will take place at the All-Russian Society of the Deaf (Astrakhan regional branch of the All-Russian Public Organization of Disabled People) where the participants can communicate with deaf people and train RSL interpreting skills. The practice will last from July to August 2023.CITS Contributes to Inclusive Development in Our Region

Thus, Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation is taking another step to promote and develop linguistic inclusion in Astrakhan Region, establishing inclusive environment and ensuring equal access to information for all people in our region. It gives the students of our RSL courses the opportunity to expand vocabulary, and use their knowledge in practice not only to communicate with the deaf, but also to interpret in the future.
