CITS to Participate in Inclusive Dialogue 2021

On April 18, Uliana Savelieva, Head of Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation, participated in the Forum of Specialized Types of Translation and Interpretation “Inclusive Dialogue 2021”. The participants of the online event discussed various types of intra-lingual and inter-semiotic translation and interpretation, such as subtitles for the deaf, audio description, sign language interpreting, clear language, etc.

The pedagogical stream included two events – an international round table and a section of reports on Russia’s experience. At the round table “Teaching Inclusive Translation and Interpreting: Best Practices and Perspectives in Russia”, experts from Russia, Germany, Finland, and Belarus discussed issues related to the specifics and effectiveness of training intra-lingual translators and interpreters in the field of inclusion based on their experience. As part of the section “Teaching Translation as a Means of Inclusion (Russian Experience) and Perspectives”, Russian speakers from universities and private schools shared their own experience in training T&I students as a means of inclusion. Besides, the existing training programs, their structure, contents, and results were presented.

Uliana Savelieva was as an expert in the online session, giving a presentation on the experience of developing an accessible linguistic environment. She briefed her colleagues on the state of progress of the Russian Sign Language and Interpretation programmes at CITS. In addition, she highlighted the participation of CITS MA students and trainers in projects to develop an inclusive environment established by School’s partner organizations. Furthermore, during the event, Head of CITS was able to establish new academic ties and discuss ideas with colleagues for launching joint initiatives.
