Inclusive Environment at ASU: Applicant with Hearing Impairments Enters University Thanks to CITS Project
The Inclusive Linguistic Environment project has been implemented by CITS for over a year. We’ve been promoting Russian Sign Language in the region, bringing deaf and hearing communities closer together, providing RSL linguistic support at various events. However, the primary goal of our project is to provide equal access to higher education for people with hearing impairments.
Recall that on May 31, representatives of the deaf community met with the admissions committee and with the ASU Department of Main Educational Programs at CITS, where the former were told about the opportunities of the admission and studies at our university. Following the meeting, two applicants submitted documents for the admission. We are glad to announce that one of them managed to pass the admission tests and entered our university! Now a deaf student is studying at the correspondence department of the Faculty of Pedagogical Education, Art, Service and Culture.
Thanks to our project, inclusive environment is being expanded at the university, and more and more deaf and hearing impaired are being involved in the educational process. We hope that next year the university will become an alma mater for even more people with hearing impairments.
