CITS`s Open Days: Another Master Class for Potential StudentsThe Caspian Higher School of Translation and Interpretation regularly holds different events for the Enrollment Campaign 2021. So, yet another master class “Problems in Simultaneous And Consecutive Interpretation” took place this March for the 4th-year students of Chinese, Japanese and German languages departments of the Faculty of Foreign Languages. The students were united by English – their second foreign language. Since the students have just started the Introduction to Interpreting Skills course, they are interested to know what difficulties simultaneous interpreters might face and what rules should be followed when interpreting.

They also learned about the history of simultaneous interpretation, the main requirements for interpreter job, and the differences between simultaneous and consecutive interpretation. The CITS trainers shared up-to-date information about the institutions where an interpreter with a chosen language can work.

And as it usually is, the master class was interactive: the students listened to two interpretations of the same speech – one was poor, the other was really good. The task of the participants was to find mistakes and determine which interpretation was better, as well as to explain why. All the students took an active part in the discussion and asked lots of reasonable questions.
