Closer than Ever: The Directorate- General for Interpretation of the European Commission Held an Online Meeting with Partner Universities
On December 3 and 4, the Directorate‑General for Interpretation of the European Commission held an online conference “Closer than ever: Interpreting in the time of a pandemic”, which was also attended by Ulyana Savelyeva and Olga Egorova, representatives of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation. This conference is held on an annual basis and serves as a platform for dialogue between universities and schools training interpreters and translators, with which the Directorate-General maintains permanent academic ties and supports training of interpreters according to EU standards.
The participants discussed the most pressing issues for the field of interpreting: how interpretation is currently organized and carried out at international events, what difficulties interpreters face in performing their duties, and what changes interpreter training is currently undergoing in leading higher schools around the world. In addition, the relevance of sign language remote interpreting was highlighted separately, since the T&I community is just developing this area and its significance is now realized more than ever.
