Barrier-free Communication at ASU: CITS Conducts Corporate Training for University Employees
Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation continues to work on the development of the linguistic inclusion project at the Astrakhan Tatishchev State University. In order for deaf, hard of hearing, blind, visually impaired and deafblind applicants to feel comfortable within the walls of the university, we decided to conduct a training for university employees on interaction with these categories of citizens.
At the training, which started on July 25, participants learned how to communicate with people with disabilities, how to read in Braille and how to sign their names in Russian Sign Language (RSL). In addition, after the training, the employees of our university will be able to tell about themselves, Astrakhan and ASU in RSL. The training was conducted by CITS specialists and a hearing-impaired student of the university.
We believe that employees of any educational organization should be aware of the peculiarities of the deaf and blind communities. This will help to build a barrier-free environment and ensure equal access to information for all participants in the educational process.
