k-lLwQTfhVEFrom March, 15 to April, 15 the Astrakhan State University hosts professor Bruce Leimsidor from the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, who specializes in migration law. All of us are aware of the today’s complex situation with migrants in Europe that is why the discussion on this topic is very timely. Here, in the Astrakhan State University, Bruce Leimsidor is also delivering lectures on migration processes in the modern world. The professor makes clear why it is necessary to distinguish “refugee” from “migrant”, explains the causes of the migration crisis in Europe and the way the EU countries are trying to tackle this problem. The professor really has much to share with our students and much to teach them, because he has an enormous experience in this sphere. Having received his degree in the US, the professor was conducting studies in migrants’ rights in Austria and Canada, and then he had an experience of working as a UN Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants. It is interesting to notice that professor’s classes are far from traditional lecturing, he opts for interactive form based on a continual dialogue with an audience. The 1st- and the 2nd-year students of the Higher Caspian School of Interpreting and Translation help him with it, providing simultaneous interpretation during all the lectures.
