Mock Conference: the UN session devoted to the conflict in Syria
On Wednesday, 18th September, the second-year master students held an unusual class- that is, a mock conference devoted to the most pressing topic nowadays- the conflict in Syria. This time the master students had a task to hold a real UN session and to discuss this topic. The roles chosen by the students turned out to be very interesting and appropriate for a session of such kind- they were ministers of foreign affairs, heads of the states, reporters. The reports were presented in English, Russian, Persian and Italian and were interpreted simultaneously by the students who had chosen the «roles» of interpreters. Such training helps not only to improve your simultaneous interpretation skills, but also to develop skills of the public speaking, speech-writing, communicating on topics every interpreter must keep up with.
At the end of the session Olga Egorova, who was present at the «conference», assessed the quality of the simultaneous interpretation and gave her feedback on the overall organization of the lesson and the preparation of the speakers.
