The 5000 volunteers, who helped to organize this large-scale festival and became an integral part of it, met the participants and guests, put smiles on their faces and inspired them with positive mood. Polina Karabalaeva, the 2nd year MA student of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation, also took part in this event. She served as the attaché of the Russian delegation at the festival. The outcomes of her work made Polina one of the best volunteers taking this position! “My main task at the WFYS was an active interaction with the participants: we accompanied the delegation, promptly solved the issues and always knew about the most actual events. On frequent occasions, we also performed the role of a mediator – we helped participants to communicate with foreign guests and gave them some guidance in the issues of intercultural communication,” – said Polina.
The entire history of this festival saw our country opening its doors to young representatives of the world community two times: in 1957 and 1985. In 2017, young people who carry out activities in various fields gathered at the WFYS: they were representatives of NPOs and youth who achieved success in science, creativity, sports, pedagogy, IT, politics, and the best representatives of the student community, and of course, foreigners interested in Russian culture. “Volunteers not only worked at the festival, but they themselves could attend program activities. I was able to attend the lecture of the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, to hear the well-known motivational speaker, Nick Vujicic, to study the basics of nuclear physics with the Nobel Prize laureate George Smith and, of course, to meet a lot of interesting young people from all over the world. Probably, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance, and I’m glad I took it.”
