On June, 6 our School had the last (in this academic year) virtual class with the European Parliament. The VC participants – the 1st year MA students Maria Dedesova, Anna Shcherbakova, Anastasia Eremeeva and Olga Kulakova – interpreted from English and French into Russian. The EP interpreter Ann Forder who is a frequent participant of our virtual classes and whom our MA students know well already, prepared speeches on urban cycling and cybercrime and the ways to protect one’s personal data from cyberattacks. The French speaker Dominique De Geofroy prepared an exciting speech on gender disproportions in India and China particularly touching upon the issue of women deficit and the consequences of women number decrease in the Indian and Chinese societies. The European Parliament interpreters noted that the MA students dealt with interpreting well; in students’ performances they stressed out such advantages as a smooth speech during the interpreting, lack of incomplete ideas and sentences as well as confident presentation of interpretation. There were still some mistakes, e.g. omissions of some details, introduction of some information which was not presented in the original speech, inaccurate rendering of sense of some sentences, etc. The students’ performances were also commented by Ilga Berzina, who came to Astrakhan for giving interpreting classes for the MA students and attending the state interpreting exams of our graduates. In general Ilga liked students’ interpretation and she also noted some mistakes and shortcomings during their interpreting.

We were also pleased to see our graduate Victoria Tinakina among our Brussels colleagues; now Victoria is undertaking traineeship in the DG Interpretation of the European Parliament and she managed to attend the virtual class with the MA students of  the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation.
