mtoF6Cmi0PwOn October, 10 three MA students of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation took part in a virtual class with the European Parliament interpreters.  Anna Shcherbakova interpreted from Russian into French; Liliya Petrova – from English into Russian; Olga Kulakova – from French into Russian. One of the graduates of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation, Anastasia Lopatchenko, took part in the virtual class as well. She interpreted from Italian into Russian. This time the European Parliament interpreters prepared speeches devoted to introduction of the women-only passenger carriages in different countries, advantages and disadvantages of urban and rural living and night trains in Europe. Meanwhile professor of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation Ulyana Savelieva prepared a Russian speech on the differences between patriotism and tolerance. She gave the definitions of these two terms, told about types of patriotism and expressed her opinion concerning the subject. The interpreters of the European Parliaments noted that the students did a good job and emphasised the fluency and absence of hesitations in interpretation. However, there were some mistakes such as omission of details, wrong interpretation of some sentences, inaccurate questions etc. Paolo Torrigiani, with whom our MA students had got acquainted during their internship in Brussels, commented on the students’ interpretation as well. In general, Brussels interpreters were pleased with the level of training of our students and their performance.
