“Translation theory: intercultural / interlingual communication” network master program

The Caspian Higher School of Interpretation and Translation is getting a new development level!

On February, 13 the Astrakhan State University (ASU) Rector Aleksandr Lunev and the Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University (KFU) Rector Ilshat Gafurov signed a cooperation agreement for the network master program implementation. The agreement aims to create network master programs within the “Caspian Higher School of Interpretation and Translation” project (the project of the Astrakhan State University, the Directorates-General for Interpretation of the European Commission and the European Parliament with support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the United Nations Secretariat). This network program will give the KFU students a chance to take a course of the “Translation theory: intercultural / interlingual communication” program using resources of the Caspian Higher School of Interpretation and Translation (including practice studies in the European institutions and the UN, virtual classes, as well as admission, intermediate and final tests). The Caspian Higher School of Interpretation and Translation will support the KFU on organizing an identical laboratory to train conference interpreters. The signed agreement provides for co-education of MA students, sharing experience between the ASU and KFU teaching staff, organization of practice studies in the European organizations and involvement of European experts for training students and working with teachers. Moreover, the Caspian Higher School of Interpretation and Translation teachers will give interpreting lessons in the KFU, and the program will be partly implemented as a distance learning scheme.

The network master program will give the Kazan Federal University a chance to increase the training of linguists as conference interpreters. As for the Caspian Higher School of Interpretation and Translation, it is of great importance for us to develop partnership with other Russian universities, to share our interpreting training experience, to develop advanced methods and ideas and to use them within the educational process.
