The test was intended to check the MA students ability to perform consecutive interpreting without notes; for some students the test was not limited to English-Russian language combination, but included other languages (for example, German). A special attention was paid to the MA students’ background knowledge; they were asked questions with a focus on the current issues of the Middle East. This year the topics of the speeches for interpretation were as diverse as usual, ranging from the corruption in world football to the problems of crime and punishment in the United States.
The next three days were dedicated to classes where the MA students received recommendations on interpreter’s shorthand technique development as well as the comments on the aspects that require special attention when performing interpretation.
Now first-year MA students inspired by this valuable experience will continue to work hard and look forward to the next master classes from Liam Long.
