Virtual class with the University of Geneva

kxfZJrEpbVgOn May 20, 2016, the 1st and 2nd MA students of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation participated in a virtual class with the University of Geneva that was dedicated to the upcoming great event – Rio 2016 Olympic Games. It is worth noting that our colleagues from Kazan Federal University and L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University (Kazakhstan) also took part in the conference, as they were eager to experience such kind of virtual class.Among the speakers, there was Elena Yakovleva, a trainer of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation, as well as Manuela Motta and Jean Murray, trainers of the University of Geneva. In particular, Jean Murray delivered a speech about the origin of the Olympic Games and the Olympic Movement as a whole, as well as about contradictions that have been happening throughout its history.The second year MA student Karina Kulova consecutively interpreted the speech into Russian, and the students of the University of Geneva provided interpretation of the speech into French and Arabic. Ludmila Napylova, a trainer of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation, assessed and commented the interpretation into Arabic.In the end of the conference, Maria Avdaseva, a trainer of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation, delivered a speech on how to overcome difficulties in the interpretation of figures, which is one of the most difficult interpreting aspects. Besides reviewing the problem, Maria Avdaseva gave valuable tips and recommendations for dealing with this challenging task.
