Caspian School Students Present Their Terminology Projects to Rospatent ExpertsThe new academic year in the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation is already getting up steam! Last week, ASU hosted the National Intellectual Property Seminar, attended by Rospatent and WIPO experts who also paid a visit to our School.

On September 13, the WIPO and Rospatent experts met with the School teachers and students at the School’s Multimedia Linguistic Laboratory, which operates the unique software enabling the students to work with WIPO Pearl terminology database. Our students have been actively enhancing the database for the second year in a row within the framework of the cooperation between ASU and WIPO. Our students had a chance to have a talk with Grigory Ivliev, the Head of the Russian Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent). Mr. Ivliev told the students about the work with patent documentation and processing of the documents compiled in foreign languages. The students, in their turn, shared their experience of working with WIPO Pearl and told the guest about the results they’ve achieved. The participants of this meeting united in their opinion that working on these kinds of projects and building partnerships between educational institutions and organizations is a rewarding practice that not only has a prolific impact on the learning process but also valuably contributes to the professional activity of the interpreters and translators around the globe. Moreover, Rospatent experts were so impressed by the results our students had achieved working on their projects that now the School and Rospatent representatives are discussing possible cooperation in implementing a joint project on patent terminology, and soon we will tell you about it in more detail! Lots of laborious work lies ahead, which means the School and its students are on their way to a completely new level!
